|NCK - Nordic Centre for Cultural Heritage Learning|
The Nordic Centre for Cultural Heritage Learning (NCK) was established in 2005 on the initiative of several larger museums, art museums, archives and universities in all Nordic countries.
NCK is located in Östersund in the middle of Sweden and is hosted by Jamtli museum, The Regional State Archives in Östersund and the Regional Folk Archives of Jämtland.
Jamtli museum is the largest of the host organisations behind NCK. Jamtli is the regional museum of the County of Jämtland and has archaeological, cultural historical, ethnographical and art collections as well as one of the largest and oldest open air museums in Scandinavia. Jamtli is especially renowned for the pedagogical work.
The Nordic Centre for Cultural Heritage Learning (NCK) is organized as a network governed by the three host organisations and by a board with representatives from Nordic museums, archives and universities as well as the County Council of Jämtland and the Municipality of Östersund.
A reference Nordic group of specialists meets every year to examine the activities and exchanging experiences and ideas and developing project tasks for the Centre.
Three staff members handle the day to day activities of NCK. The Centre allocates the activities in most projects and meetings to the host organisations.
The Nordic Centre for Cultural Heritage Learning (NCK) has the following aims:
NCK arranges conferences, seminars, work shops and courses in order to spread information and experiences to the heritage sector. NCK runs news letter, homepage and mail list with more than 500 active subscribers. NCK initiates research and development projects normally financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers or by the European Union. Finally NCK annually give the prize for extraordinary contributions to the development of good cultural heritage learning practice to a person or an organisation active in one or more of the Nordic countries.
