Introduction:

EBLIDA is the European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations, created in 1992 and based in The Hague, The Netherlands, it is an independent umbrella association of library, information, documentation and archive associations and institutions in Europe.

Structure:

The bodies of EBLIDA are:
-    The Council (which is currently comprised of around 140 members)
-    The Executive Committee (representatives of up to 10 members and the President)
-    The Expert groups
-    The Secretariat (1 Director, 1 Communication Manager (part-time))

Objectives:

EBLIDA’s main goal is to lobby for European libraries at various levels.
It aims to secure access for all to the benefits of the information society in all formats and promotes and defends the interests of the library, archive and information sectors and the staff working within them on behalf of the people of Europe.


Activities:

EBLIDA’s activities are specifically to:
• increase the influence, impact and cohesion of the library, archive and information sectors and those working within them throughout Europe,
• represent the views of EBLIDA’s members to the European Union institutions and other relevant European and international policy-making bodies and to ensure, by lobbying and other means, that members’ legitimate interests are heeded,
• identify European policy issues of legitimate interest and lobby for favourable outcomes,
• raise awareness and disseminate information that is consistent with EBLIDA’s mission and objectives,
• recruit and mobilise the membership at European and national level on matters of common concern,
• communicate EBLIDA’s members' views to the Council of Europe, and
• engage with right holders, publishers, etc. on matters of common interest.
