![]() IntroductionNEMO - The Network of European Museum Organisations is an independent network of museum associations and similar bodies representing the museum community of Europe and associated countries. StructureNEMO was founded in 1992 as an independent and informal network. Currently NEMO has members - representatives of national museums associations and similar bodies - in 32 countries. ActivitiesAdvocacy NEMO speaks on behalf of museums informing European institutions on cultural policy issues and emphasizing museums' interests and influence on European cultural policy and initiatives. Networking As a platform for cooperation among museums associations and organisations in Europe - regardless of the different museum categories - NEMO helps to build up trust between museums in order to enable collaborations and joint projects. It offers a unique forum for providing common approaches to relevant museum matters, such as the transnational mobility of works of art and people, the exchange of information on managing museums and the strengthening and coordinating of strong ethical codes in all European museums. Promotion NEMO promotes the importance and value of museums, both to nation states and across Europe. It emphasizes the role museums play in economic growth, bringing communities together, promoting a diverse cultural heritage and supporting learning. Information NEMO encourages and enables the exchange of intelligence and information about all aspects of museum work and the political, social and economic environment in which they operate. Through publications, meetings and the NEMO website, information is exchanged between museums, from museums to European institutions, and museums and museum bodies are kept up to date with European initiatives.
