Introduction

The Factory of Art is a cultural institution whose actions are education-oriented and focus on modern art. The Factory of Art was created in 2006 by two NGOs - Łódź Art Center and CHOREA Theatre Association, together with the City Office of Łódź.

CHOREA is responsible for the theatre and performance activities of the Factory of Art. CHOREA organizes concerts, plays and theatre actions in the city space, carry out research on the origins of theatre, dance and music, and share the results through cyclical workshops, which from the very beginning of the Factory of Art assumed a form of Tuesdays in the Factory of Art. More info on CHOREA: http://www.chorea.com.pl

Łódź Art Center is responsible for visual arts programmes. Among others, Łódź Art Center is a main organiser of the International Festival of Design - ŁÓDZ DESIGN (the first festival in Poland devoted exclusively to design) and of the annual international conference “Łódź you like to be creative?” More info on Łódź Art Center: www.lodzartcenter.com

The programming of the Factory has an open formula. The Factory welcomes new ideas coming from artists or organizations as long as they fit into the Factory’s mission. Interested creators may take part in cyclical events (such as Tuesdays in the Factory) as well as organize their own events.  Apart from hosting artistic events, the Factory is always pleased to provide space for discussions and meetings concerning subjects of vital importance for citizens of Łódź.

Structure

The Factory of Art - based on a public-private partnership model - was established in 2006 by two NGO organizations (Łódź Art Center and the Chorea Theatre Association) together with the City of Łódź.

Aims

The Factory’s main aims are to:
- produce and disseminate culture with focus on new trends in modern art
- provide support for culture and creative entrepreneurs
- promote active forms of participation in culture
- support and promote various forms of culture education
- build a co-operation network between culture operators in Poland and abroad
- provide infrastructural, technical and professional support to young creators

Activities

One of the main tasks of the Factory of Art is to involve citizens into artistic and cultural activities, to give them the opportunity to spend their spare time creatively.
The Tuesdays in the Factory cycle (every second week) involve workshops presenting various theatre forms, body practice, voice training, and meetings with prominent personalities of the world of theatre. Another activity offered by Factory of Art is the Thursdays in the Factory - a series of lectures and meetings with artists and experts in various aspects of culture.

Factory of Art has been recently developing the Art_Inkubator. The project is divided into two phases, which create one common, substantive whole. The first task is the foundation of the project – revitalization of the factory complex. As a result the material part of the incubator will be created - offices, art studios and a multifunctional art space. The second phase is running and managing the Inkubator. The Art_Inkubator is going to be the institution of support, acting not for profit, which will help the future creative entrepreneurs, ngo’s, artists to enter the market. It is going to be a platform that will allow the realization of their business and artistic ideas. More info on the Art_Inkubator: http://artinkubator.com

International co-operation is a very important part of the daily work of our center. We focus on projects developed together with our international partners instead of only exchanging or presenting their works in our venue. Lately, international co-operation of the Factory was mainly realized in the context of the Art_Inkubator - focusing on exchanging best practices and developing common projects related to the creative industries sector. Partners of the Factory of Art - Chorea Theatre and Łódź Art Center -  were involved in many international projects over the years - Chorea in field of performing arts and Łódź Art Center in the field of visual arts.
