Introduction


AMATEO – The European Network for Cultural Participation in Cultural Activities – is an internet based network for national or minority organisations within the field of amateur or voluntary or community arts and crafts.

Structure


18 member organisations in 12 countries (2009). Member organisations can be national or state or minority organisations within the fields of theatre, music, choirs, film, video, etc. You can also talk about amateur arts and crafts, community arts, and socio-cultural activities.

AMATEO has a board of nine members.

Aims


Enhancing:
  • information flow, especially about the socio-cultural activities of the member organisations;
  • political support for the importance of active participation in cultural activities;
  • the exchange of information and practice among the member organisations;
  • international co-operation projects such as festivals, exhibitions, exchange programmes, etc.;
  • the development of cultural projects, exchange programmes and tours and supporting the search for relevant partners from participating countries;
  • joint research into the field of active cultural participation;
    intercultural dialogue;
  • the trans-national mobility of people working in cultural activities.

Activities


AMATEO was established in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on June 20-21, 2008, and officially registered as an international organisation under Belgian law in Ghent, Belgium, on October 2, 2008. The annual conference and General Meeting 2009 was held in Utrecht, the Netherlands, on June 11-12, 2009.
