Introduction


Cultuurnetwerk Nederland is the Netherlands expertise centre for arts- and cultural education and is open to everyone active in arts and cultural education, whether it is through study or career.

Cultural education is a general term for different educational fields involving arts and culture as either the end or the means.

Cultuurnetwerk Nederland is an independent organisation. Funding for activities comes from several sources. A number of products and services are of national interest. For these activities, Cultuurnetwerk Nederland receives financial support from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Another part of its activities are commissioned by non-profit organisations.   

Structure


Cultuurnetwerk Nederland consists of three main departments; Information services, Consultancy and Research. In addition there are some supporting departments.

Aims


Cultuurnetwerk Nederland aims to offer advice and to support cultural education activities. What’s more, the centre connects all sorts of people and organisations involved in cultural education. To realise these objectives, the organisation works with many partners in the Netherlands and abroad.
Cultuurnetwerk Nederland also seeks to contribute to the international exchange of knowledge in the field of cultural education. A second aim is to stimulate comparative research among different countries. To this end, Cultuurnetwerk collaborates with partners outside of the Netherlands.     

Activities


The organisation:
  • collects, researches, processes and disseminates information and knowledge on the theory, policy and practice of cultural education in the Netherlands and abroad;
  • has a study centre with a specialised library;
  • does research and gives advice;
  • organises workshops, debates, seminars and conferences;
  • releases publications;
  • operates and maintains diverse websites.
In addition to its activities in the Netherlands, Cultuurnetwerk Nederland is also active internationally. Cultuurnetwerk Nederland has access to a vast network of contact persons and organisations.

The organisation also organises international conferences, does cross-border research and collaborates on a global level.

Cultuurnetwerk offers organizations outside of the Netherlands:
  • information on cultural education in the Netherlands and abroad;
  • access to an extensive European network;
  • know-how and partnership for conducting international research;
  • know-how and partnership for organizing international conferences
