Introduction
Bundesvereinigung Kulturelle Jugendbildung (BKJ - German Federation for Arts Education and Cultural Learning) main task is the promotion of formal and non-formal cultural youth education. It is the government’s key partner in the field of cultural youth education in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Structure
Members: 48 organisations and federal associations associations active in cultural education for young people in Germany have joined forces nationally under the umbrella of the Bkj to work towards a common goal: the promotion and advancement of formal and non-formal cultural youth education.
Aims
The promotion and advancement of formal and non-formal cultural education for children and young people. Specialised knowledge and experience in the educational sector enable Bkj and its member organisations to make an important contribution to successful representation of youth and cultural policy interests and to a diversification of cultural education for children and young people on both national and international levels. Each year more than ten million young people and multipliers of cultural youth education participate in the seminars, projects, competitions and events organised by Bkj member organisations. These activities cover all areas of culture such as visual art, music, drama, theatre, dance, literature, photography, film and multimedia.
Activities
In its function as an umbrella organisation, Bkj performs the following:
- Representation of youth and cultural policy interests, on both national and European levels
- Participation in important national / European bodies and institutions
- Establishment and extension of European and international exchange in specialised fields
- Exchange of information and experience of all issues of cultural education for children and young people between the member organisations and other interested groups
- Development of pilot-projects for and perspectives on cultural education for children and young people
- Counselling in all areas of cultural education for the young
- Organisation of conferences and advanced training programmes
- Support for the establishment of structures improving cultural education for the young on local, state, national and international levels
- Publication of documentation, teaching materials, case reports and concepts
In co-operation with the Remscheid Academy for Cultural Youth Education, bkj is supporting an interdisciplinary documentation and information service for institutions providing cultural education for young people: the Dokumentationsstelle Kulturelle Bildung (Documentation Centre for Cultural Education). One of its components is the "Bkj Projektbank Jugendkulturarbeit" (Bkj Project Base for Cultural Youth Education) which offers suggestions, ideas, concepts and contact addresses for all areas of applied cultural education.
