PRESS RELEASE 26 SEPTEMBER 2012

BOZAR welcomes Culture Action Europe, the leading European advocacy network for culture, in its offices

Culture Action Europe (CAE), the leading European advocacy network for culture, and the Centre for Fine Arts of Brussels (BOZAR) are really pleased to announce the launch of a long structural collaboration. As from 1 December 2012, BOZAR, one of the largest cultural and arts centres in Belgium, will welcome the CAE Secretariat in its building.

This collaboration will clearly strengthen the two organizations’ position in Brussels and at European level. BOZAR is confident that this will also reinforce its ambitions as a European platform between culture and politics at all levels. CAE sees it as a great opportunity to reinforce its dialogue with the community of artists and audiences while engaging in bridging the cultural sector with other sectors of the European active citizenship.

Paul Dujardin, BOZAR CEO and Artistic Director: “This partnership is unique in Europe, for it aims at further gathering the arts world with the European project; Located in the heart of the capital of Europe, and within a historic art deco building thanks to its interdisciplinary dimension, it will position our two organizations at a crossroad between citizens, policy-makers and artists.”

Luca Bergamo, CAE Secretary General: “To step out of its dramatic crisis Europe needs more public and private commitment on all policies that impact on our societies’ cultural capacity. The direct and daily connection between the cultural and artistic life and the advocacy activity resulting from the partnership will be a tremendous asset to foster a broader civic engagement in support of the necessity of culture as well as representing it in decision-making processes.”

Note:

BOZAR is the largest cultural and arts organization in Belgium, with over 1 million visitors per year benefitting from top arts exhibitions, debates, festivals and cultural events in all disciplines, from cinema, to dance, theatre, literature, architecture or music. As an independent organization located in the capital of Belgium and Europe, BOZAR’s aim is to establish bridges between people, countries and cultures through high level artistic events. BOZAR is also a meeting place for Belgian and European decision-makers to discuss about Europe through cultural lenses.

Culture Action Europe (CAE) was established in 1992 to promote arts and culture as a building block of the European project and is today the leading European advocacy network of cultural operators. CAE currently associates 110 organisations from all across Europe representing more than 80,000 organisations active in all cultural and artistic domains: from orchestras to writers associations, from research institutions to cultural contact points, from national theatres to international cultural networks, from museums to opera houses, from conservatoires to visual arts.
