Introduction


The German ITI develops and supports international cultural co-operation by providing information services, by organizing international encounters, specialists’ conferences, theatre festivals (i.e. THEATER DER WELT in Germany), and workshops centered around various aspects of the performing arts. ITI Germany regularly publishes newsletters (IMPULSE), papers, and books.

Structure


The ITI, a promoter of cultural exchange world-wide, currently is the largest international network for the performing arts. As a non-governmental organization created by UNESCO in 1948, it has offices in approx. 100 countries. Its General Secretariat is based in Paris (UNESCO headquarters).

The German ITI is supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Cultural and the Media, the Cultural Foundation of the Federal States and the City of Berlin.

Aims


The German ITI is represented in the international committees within the ITI network and contributes to the discussion and research concerning aesthetic and social interrelations within the world of theatre. The committees work continuously and focused on concrete projects, they publish documentations on special aspects of the work in their respective fields. Based on bilateral agreements of co-operation, the German ITI supports theatre cultures in developing countries. The emphasis in this field is on advisory for active ITI centres and the promotion by information and exchange.

Activities


The ITI offers advice for German cultural politics as to questions of European and international co-operation in the field of theatre. It continually informs national cultural institutions on theatrical developments of political, structural or aesthetic kind.

As part of the biggest international theatre network the German ITI offers a comprehensive service to the country's theatre people in making international contacts and in preparing and organizing artistic encounter in Germany as well as guest performances abroad and festivals in Germany.
