Introduction
The Baltic Sea Culture Centre in Gdansk was established in 1992. The Centre's activities focus on nearly all fields of arts.
Activities
It organises interdisciplinary projects such as scientific and literary seminars, conferences, debates, contemporary art exhibitions, theatre and dance performances, audiovisual presentations, festivals and concerts of classical, jazz, rock and folk music. The BSCC has also published a number of its own books.
The BSCC organises nearly 40 events a year, most of them include international co-operation. A great number of our projects is supported by Nordic and Baltic ministries and embassies, the European Union, Polish state funding and commercial sponsors. We also co-operate with the Polish Ministry of Culture and the ARS BALTICA Organising Committee. The Centre keeps regular and lively contacts with many cultural institutions and "policy makers" in all countries situated around the Baltic Sea as well as with individual artists and researchers who are interested in creating new quality for the cultural exchange in our region.
Structure
The Baltic Sea Culture Centre employs about 30 people and is subsidised by the Regional Government (Office of the Marshall of the Pomorskie Voivodship). The Centre's seat is the 16th- century Old Town Hall in Gdansk. The Centre administrates also St. John's International Culture Centre (Gothic church in Gdansk Old Town).
