Introduction

Interarts is a private organisation which operates on two major areas: providing research, information and training in the fields of cultural policy and on the role of culture in local and international development; and fostering international cultural cooperation, with a focus on Europe and other regions including Latin America.

Structure

Interarts is a foundation set up in 1995. Its structure comprises a board of individual members, who are appointed on the basis of their previous record in the arts, culture and international cooperation. Professional staff currently includes 12 members, whose areas of expertise include cultural policies, creative industries, cultural cooperation, cultural rights and cultural tourism.

Aims

Interarts aims to generate and to disseminate knowledge which contributes to appraising the role of culture in human development at an international level.

More specific objectives include the following:
  • to provide research in the fields of cultural rights, cultural policies, culture within social and economic development and cultural tourism;
  • to initiate and contribute to international processes in cultural cooperation, particularly those which lead to new, sustainable international partnerships and help to raise awareness about the relevance of culture in international development;
  • to develop information tools that provide cultural agents with data on current developments and opportunities;
  • to provide regular and specific training opportunities to cultural professionals and students;
  • to advise cultural organisations and public authorities on fields including international cultural developments, setting up new cultural businesses and raising resources for new cultural initiatives.
