Introduction
The SICA serves as an independent information and co-ordination point for international cultural activities and was established in 1999. It distributes information on cultural funding and practical aspects of international cultural policy for organisations involved in different cultural disciplines, both within the Netherlands and abroad. As part of the SICA, the Cultural Contact Point the Netherlands (CCP) serves as the helpdesk for the EU Culture programme and other EU funding opportunities.
Aims
The SICA aims to promote and co-ordinate the exchange of information and expertise between different cultural sectors, to improve co-ordination of activities and to encourage a lively interchange of expertise and experience within the field of international culture.
Activities
In order to attain its objectives, the SICA is continually developing a wide range of activities and data carriers such as: daily expert advice by consultants, information and discussion workshops, a magazine, a website and fact sheets. Through the website, magazine and workshops the exchange of information on specific countries and themes is being stimulated.
The SICA helpdesk consultants are available to help organisations with their international activities and to answer questions about all aspects of international cultural funding and practical aspects of international cultural policy. If appropriate, organisations are referred to other Dutch cultural organisations like funds, institutes and national or regional organisations. For more in depth questions SICA offers the opportunity of consulting one of the help desk officers in person.

The SICA has a Foreign Visitors’ Programme that offers an opportunity for inviting cultural key figures, officials and journalists to the Netherlands to stimulate the establishment of contacts between foreign and Dutch cultural organisations. Potential guests should have a broad interest in Dutch cultural activities and/or Dutch cultural policy. It is vital that the visit also serves the interest of the Dutch cultural sector.
