Res Artis Print

Introduction

Since its foundation in 1993 Res Artis has grown into the sole world-wide network of residential arts centres. Res Artis represents the interests of more than 200 centres and organisations that offer international artists facilities and conditions conducive for making art. Due to the efforts of Res Artis the understanding of the catalytic role residential arts centres play in the development of contemporary art has increased.

Structure

Res Artis is a members driven organisation. The board consists of four Officers (President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary) and one member. The Advisory Committee consists of 13 members. Res Artis has 4 categories of membership: Full Membership, Advisory Membership, In Statue Nascendi Membership and Affiliate/Individual Membership.
Res Artis has the legal status of an international Foundation, based in the Netherlands.

Members

Currently members of Res Artis reside in: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cypres, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Senegal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, USA.

Members of Res Artis not only include residential arts centres but also individuals, artists’ unions and organisations that represent numerous residential arts centres themselves (for example the Alliance of Artists’ Communities, USA, representing nearly 100 artists’ communities).

Aims

RES ARTIS aims to:
  • provide a forum to support and represent the interests of residential arts centres and programmes internationally;
  • contribute to the creation of an international network of residential arts centres and programmes which provides artists with facilities and conditions conducive to creative work and which actively involves artists from more than one country;
  • foster residential arts centres and programmes that show a genuine will to sustain or improve the quality of artistic endeavours in any culture.

Activities

  • To encourage an understanding of the work of residential arts centres and their catalytic role in the development of art and ideas in the contemporary world.
  • To collect and provide information on residential arts centres and programmes.
  • To represent the interest of members and artists to governmental and non-governmental agencies, international organisations, foundations and to the corporate sector.
  • To provide members with a network of peers, and a centralised referral system, from whom they may access expertise and advice in response to their evolving needs.
  • To encourage and assist in the development of new residential arts centres, particularly in regions where there are no such resources or where such resources are scarce.
  • To hold Biennial General Meetings at which issues of interest to its members are addressed.
