Introduction

 

Opera Europa is the leading service organisation for professional opera companies and opera festivals throughout Europe.  Opera Europa exists to promote and develop the art of opera in all its forms. Its purpose is to strengthen opera companies throughout Europe by means of mutual support and collective action. It offers a platform for its members to share good practices, to meet and to exchange views. Currently serving 120 member companies from 35 different countries, the main office is in Brussels, at the La Monnaie opera house.

Structure

 

Opera Europa’s governing Board is made up of fifteen members chosen from the general membership and elected for three year terms. The Board elects the President from within its members. Since October 2011, Peter de Caluwe, General Director of La Monnaie, holds this function. Opera Europa’s director is Nicholas Payne, and the Brussels office Manager is Audrey Jungers. Two Coordinators, Virginie Grulois and Gérald Philippe, are further responsible for responding to members’ needs.

 

Aims

 

Opera Europa’s mission is to be the leading service organization for professional opera houses and opera festivals in Europe, providing support for the creation, presentation and enjoyment of opera.

 

Activities


- Organisation of biannual conferences on specific opera-related themes
- Coordination at European level of the European Opera Days
- Publication of a quarterly newsletter, OEuvres, reporting on past activities and announcing future events 
- Coordination of thematic groups of opera professionals (artistic, business & finance, costume, fundraising, human resources, marketing, technical & productions)

- Development of online databases
- Thematical research work
