Introduction
The European Music Council (EMC) is a platform for representatives of the national music councils and organisations involved in the field of music education, creation, performance, heritage, etc. from European countries.
The EMC is the leading professional organisation in Europe dedicated to the development and the promotion of all kinds of music.
The EMC contributes to a better mutual understanding among peoples and their different cultures and to the right for all musical cultures to coexist. Therefore it provides exceptional value to its membership by building knowledge, creating networking opportunities, supporting and enhancing the visibility of initiatives that help sustain people’s participation in music and cultural life.
Structure
The EMC is a regional group of the International Music Council (IMC). It was formed upon request of the Director General of UNESCO as the advisory body to the agency on music matters. Today the membership of the EMC consists of over 30 national music councils as well as more than 30 European organisations active in the various fields of music.
Aims
- to promote all kinds of music in Europe;
- to voice the interest of the music sector in relation to the European Institutions;
- to represent the European musical life on an international level;
- to encourage information exchange and cooperation

- Youth Participation
The EMC believes that youth participation is essential. There fore it created the Working Group Youth (WGY). It is part of the EMC and it is a good example of youth participation.
