NEMO – NETWORK OF EUROPEAN MUSEUM ORGANISATIONS

“We are museums” conference in Vilnius, Lithuania, 6-7 June 2013

“We are Museums” is a NEMO partner conference that looks at the potential and dimensions of innovation and creativity that can help museums grow. The conference will aim at answering the following questions: How can museums become more integrated in people’s daily life, how are digital tools helping museums become more open and connected?

New surveys on the situation of literary translators in Europe

CEATL is currently performing new surveys on literary translators' working conditions, training and education, visibility, and legal status. The outcomes are expected in 2014.

 

LAF - LITERATURE ACROSS FRONTIERS

New online resource and iPhone application

LAF has launched a new website which includes a redesign of Europe's trilingual review of international writing - Transcript (launching with a focus on Armenian literature) - plus news, features and information resources for people in the field of international literature. LAF and Comma Press have also launched a multilingual application for iPhone - Gimbal - that guides readers around cities using short fiction from around the world. 

 

ENCC - EUROPEAN NETWORK OF CULTURAL CENTRES

Project Fair Aarhus, Cultural Centre Godsbanen , 6-8 June  2013

EENC will organize a Project Fair on the theme of cultural production in European Cultural Centres, and with the aim to provide both food for thought and a hands-on experience for all participants. The program combines spoken, intellectual input with practical, hands-on experience through 14 different workshops.

Recommendations for the online public consultation about short-stay Schengen visas

The European Commission - DG Home Affairs is revising the EU visa code and has opened a public online consultation to improve the procedures for obtaining short-stay "Schengen" visas. On-the-move encourages artists and organizations to answer the consultations by 17 June and provides background information and recommendations on its website.

 

EUBO - EUROPEAN UNION BAROQUE ORCHESTRA

A new CD and a new Orchestra in 2013

As the new CD Pure Handel is released, 25 fresh young musicians from 15 EU countries become the new EUBO 2013 with more than 35 international concerts programmed for this year.

New publication: AMAZE ME - Opera for Young Audiences in Europe

EUROPEAN MUSIC COUNCIL

Sounds #8 now online

Sounds in Europe, the EMC’s annual magazine has been published. Issue #8 features an update on the EMC’s fields of activities, project descriptions from its member organisations, an interview on cultural policy with Xavier Troussard and Ann Branch, a policy map that shows legislative measures with a positive impact on music activities in the different European countries and much more.

New Call for travels grants

The Roberto Cimetta Fund, for artistic mobility in the EU-Arab zone, will launch the third 2013 open call for travel grants from 1st to 30th June 2013. The deadline is 30 June 2013. Results will be announced on 1 September 2013.

AMI will organize a four night festival of innovating music, a musical travel for one of the most important events of the European Capital for Culture.

Call for Entries: The Aesthetica Art Prize 2013

The Aesthetica Art Prize 2013 is now open for entry, offering both budding and established artists the opportunity to showcase their work to a wider, international audience. The competition invites all artists to submit imaginative and innovative work that pushes the boundaries of their chosen medium. Prizes include up to £1000 in cash, a group exhibition and editorial coverage in Aesthetica Magazine, which has a readership of 140,000 worldwide. Categories for entry are: Photographic & Digital Art, Three Dimensional Design & Sculpture, Painting & Drawing and Installation & Performance. Deadline for entries is 31 August.

3rd European Forum on Music in Glasgow, Scotland, 18 - 21 April 2013
The Forum, organized by the EMC, will be hosted in the UNESCO City of Music, Glasgow, which particular history of regeneration through music and culture will be reflected in the conference by two main topics: Europe and the western socio-economic model is in crisis– what role can music play? And the Particular example of Glascow with the 1991 nomination as European Capital of Culture that set the start for Glasgow’s regeneration through culture.

The Roberto Cimetta Fund recently launched the second 2013 open call for travel grants. The deadline is 31 March 2013 and applications can be submitted in Arabic. Results will be announced on 1 June 2013.

New issue of the Journal of Cultural Management and Policy
The objective of the ENCATC Journal of Cultural Management and Policy is to stimulate the debate on the topics of cultural management and cultural policy among scholars, educators, policy makers and cultural managers. The Journal is based on a multidisciplinary perspective and aims at connecting theory and practice in the realm of the cultural sector.
 
COMIX4 Project
The COMIX4= COMICS FOR EQUALITY Award, lead by Africa e Mediterraneo, is a project and competition funded by the European Union open to comic artists with a migrant background from all 27 EU member states, EFTA countries and countries that have applied for / are in the process of EU-membership (Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, FYRM, Turkey, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo). There are 3 categories: The fight against racism, Stories of migration and Stereotypes. An author may submit a maximum of three comic stories per category Six prizes of 1.000€ each will be awarded as part of the competition: three prizes will be assigned by the jury and three prizes will be awarded by website users. Deadline is 30th of June 2013.

TANDEM–Cultural Managers Exchange Turkey–European Union 2013-2014
TANDEM–Cultural Managers Exchange Turkey–European Union aims at establishing long-term partnerships between cultural organisations from Turkey and the EU countries. TANDEM Turkey-EU is targeted on engaging participants in an intense international collaboration process, including placements and realisation of a shared interdisciplinary project. TANDEM starts with a Partner Forum in May 2013 in Turkey. Deadline to apply 24 March.

European conference  - Visions of (In)Tolerance in Europe today -
Lyon, France, 24-25 January 2013
Banlieues d’Europe organises a conference within the framework of the project - ACCEPT PLURALISM. The project is about tolerance and acceptance of ethnic, religious and cultural diversity in contemporary Europe. The main findings of the research undertaken across Europe by 15 Universities in relation to tolerance and intolerance practices in school and in political life will be presented.

Roundtable with President Barroso, artists and intellectuals from the cultural world
On 17 September 2012, the Centre for Fine Arts of Brussels (BOZAR) and the European Commission co-organized a roundtable with its President, José Manuel Barroso, and 20 renowned artistes and intellectuals from the cultural world. Three main topics were discussed: the impact of the financial crisis on European citizenship and the notion of European identity, what artists can do for Europe, and what Europe can do for artists.

YAMA Award 2012, Brussels, 3 November
The Young Audiences Music Award (YAMA) honors creativity and innovation in the field of musical productions for young audiences, from all corners of the world. The 2012 Awards Ceremony will be held on the 3 November in conjunction with the Big Bang Festival at the BOZAR in Brussels, where the Grand Prize and Public Prize will be awarded.

Euro-Med Youth Music Expo, Limassol, 28 September – 1 October
Limassol became a cultural melting pot where more than 200 young musicians, cultural operators and delegates from EU Member States and the Arab world got together for 4 days of workshops, performances and conferences. The Opening Ceremony was addressed by the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, Mrs. Androulla Vassiliou.

BANLIEUES D'EUROPE
“The Role of Culture Faced with the Rise of Nationalism in EuropeCitizens’ Resistance!”, Turin, 21, 22 & 23 November 2012
At its 19th meeting, the Banlieues d’Europe network will focus on different forms of cultural projects in Europe fighting against the rise of nationalism and against xenophobia. By an exploration of these cultural projects and the contribution of researchers, field actors, and artists, participants will highlight the problems linked with the transmission of history and memory, question new forms of resistance and activism and look at innovative intercultural practices.

Two exhibitions with an European dimension this summer
This summer, Bozar organizes two exhibitions with a European dimension. The first one, entitled Sense of Place, will present some 160 works by 40 photographers from every Member State of the EU, focusing on the similarities and differences across Europe, both in the landscapes and in the attitude of people towards those landscapes. The second one, organized under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, and called Mapping Cyprus, will provide both a historical part focusing on Cyprus's position as a gateway between the Byzantine East and Latin West and a modern part in which contemporary Cypriot artists address the socio-political issues of today.

Debate with the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz and Bozar’s Director Paul Dujardin
On 7 June, Bozar held a Press Meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, on how culture and artists could better support the European Union. At this occasion, President Schulz highlighted the importance of young people and young artists to re-strengthen the European project and reconnect it with its citizens.

Following the final press conference of the INTERREG IV B Med project Sostenuto – Culture as a factor of economic and social innovation that took place in Brussels on 21 June, the final publications, presenting the results of the project, are now available online


AMATEO - European Network for Active Participation in Cultural Activities
International Research Forum on Amateur Arts, Novigrad/Cittanova, Croatia, October 2012.
In October 2012, AMATEO will organize the International Research Forum on Amateur Arts that will begin work on conducting baseline research in participation levels in the amateur arts across Europe. AMATEO has 23 member organisations in 14 countries.

Conference “Art & Public Space”, Murska Sobota, Slovenia, 27 August
This August, six European Cultural Contact Points (AT, BE, HR, HU, SI, SR) will organize a regional event in Ljubljana in connection with the international festival 7th Front@ of Contemporary Dance. The conference is dedicated to the promotion of successful European transnational cooperation initiatives. It also brings the topic of “art and public space” to the fore in collaboration with UIRS - the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia and the Flota Institute. The event will bring together experienced cultural operators from six countries that have been implementing EU Culture projects that focus on different artistic disciplines as well as research approaches in/to the public space.

The ETC recently launched the 10th edition of the European online catalogue “European Theatre Today” showcasing over 100 plays for the stage from 41 countries.

Can independent culture have an impact on society?
On 6th of June Moukhtar Kocache, a member of the Danish EU Presidency project Team Culture, talked in front of several members of the European Parliament and Ministers for Culture. Mr Kocache highlighted Trans Europe Halles as an example of the great importance that independent cultural centres have for society.

Seminar on Development Goals for European Music Education, Budapest, 18-20 October 2012
On 18-20 October, the EMC  will co-organise a seminar called “From Seoul via Bonn to Budapest – Development Goals for European Music Education: Access, Quality and Social Challenges” together with the European Music school Union in the Palace of Arts in Budapest, Hungary. BANLIEUES D'EUROPE
19th Banlieues d'Europe Network meeting, Turin,  21-23 November
For its 19th meeting entitled « The Role of Culture Faced with the Rise of Nationalism in Europe Citizens’Resistance! », the Banlieues d’Europe network will tackle the challenge of examining the place and the role of culture as a form of citizen’s action and participation faced with the issues of social cohesion that question geographical frontiers as well as frontiers of imagination.
