EYCA
The EYCA joins forces with Europavox Festival, June 5-7, Clermont Ferrand, France

The Europavox festival and the European Year of Citizens Alliance (EYCA), a major network of civil society organisations in Europe, will both be rocking the European elections! In the framework of the elections and the high risk of abstention, Europavox toured with a citizen message in its luggage (Vote on 25 May!). The EYCA and Europavox will join forces around common themes, such as the mobility of artists and young people, but also the European cultural diversity. For the tour, the EYCA intends to mobilize its network of member organisations, but also all the partners sharing the same vision of Europe, to promote, together with the festival Europavox, the European cultural identity and its richness. The Festival will be held in Clermont-Ferrand from June 5 to 7 featuring M as and Stromae.
 
AMATEO
AMATEO’s annual conference, May 8-10, Stockholm, Sweden
The Swedish Amateur Culture Council, Amatörkulturens samrådsgrupp (ax) will host AMATEO’s annual conference “Culture, Health and Social Well-being” which will be held in Stockholm, Sweden from May 8-10 2014. During the conference contemporary research in the field of culture, health, and well-being will be presented from a national, Nordic and European perspective.
 
ARCI, PAV
Italian CAE members will meet Italian candidates to the European Elections 2014, May 19, Rome
In the framework of the European elections 2014, ARCI and PAV will organise a meeting with candidates to present and discuss CAE’s manifesto and to debate the role of culture in the urban requalification process and territorial development. More info will follow on the organisations’ websites.

ASSOCIATION EUROPEENNE DES CONSERVATOIRES, ACADEMIES DE MUSIQUE AND MUSIKHOCHSCHULEN (AEC) International Music Institutions Leaders Forum , May 14 – 17 2014, Keimyung University, Daegu, Korea Members of AEC, plus delegates from other relevant regional and international music organisations, as well as individuals who are concerned with this topic, will attend and participate in this International Forum, to discuss the important topic of intercultural exchange in 21st century music and music education.  Registrations are now open.

Balkan-Arab Exchange Platform Enlightening hidden passes: the reality of cultural mobilities between Balkans, Europe and the Arab world”, May 8-9, Zagreb, Croatia
Over 70 participants from 8 Arab countries (Jordan, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon, Algeria, Syria, Morocco, Palestine), 9 CEI countries (Serbia, Italy, Croatia, Austria, Slovenia, Macedonia, Ukraine, Hungary, Poland) and from Irak, Turkey, France, Spain, Portugal, Malta and Greece will discuss networking, advocacy and regional models of cooperation on 8-9 May 2014 at POGON, Centre for Independent Culture and Youth, Zagreb with the support of the Croatian Ministry of Culture, the City of Zagreb, the Central European Initiative, the Anna Lindh Foundation, the French Institute of Belgrade and the Kultura Nova Foundation.

Eurokontext Festival, June 13 - 21, Bratislava, Slovakia
From 13 to 21 June 2014 the Slovak National Theatre Bratislava will host the first Eurokontext Festival featuring guests from six countries and 17 plays by 29 playwrights.

EUROPEAN UNION BAROQUE ORCHESTRA
Peace & Reconciliation concert tour, June 28-30
This summer EUBO presents a concert tour “Peace & Reconciliation” with the Choir of Clare College, University of Cambridge, to commemorate the anniversary of the start of the First World War. Young musicians under the inspirational leadership of Lars Ulrik Mortensen will perform repertoire by G. F. Handel, also available on EUBO’s most recent CD release “Peace & Celebration”. Concerts will take place in Rotterdam (NL) 28 June, Echternach (LU) 29 June and Nantes (FR) 30 June 2014.

Open call: Pilot research on cultural diversity management in Spanish cultural institutions
Interarts launches a call for a research in the framework of the project ''Brokering Migrants' Cultural participation'' (MCP Broker) run with its partners: Platform for Intercultural Europe PIE (Belgium), Intercult (Sweden), IG Kultur Österreich (Austria) and ECCOM (Italy). The deadline is 30 April 2014.

EUROPEAN CULTURAL FOUNDATION
New Pact for Europe public debate – 10 April 2014, De Balie, Amsterdam
ECF is one of the key partners in the New Pact for Europe initiative, which has the goal of advancing the European debate with concrete reform proposals  - you can read their first report "Strategic Options for Europe’s Future” in the ECF's Library. On 10 April ECF will organize a public debate, at the debate centre De Balie in Amsterdam, focused on the growing gap and feeling of mistrust between citizens and the European institutions.
On 3 February, ECF organised Nederland in Europa, a closed door debate including 40 invited Dutch politicians, policy-makers, journalists and representatives from the cultural and business sector. The goals of this top-level exchange was to introduce workable, realistic reforms to make the EU more effective in responding to the challenges we are currently facing. The first report will be discussed between December 2013 and April 2014 by citizens, politicians, policymakers and key stakeholders in around 50 events in many EU Member States, in order to generate ideas for future action. The second report will draft a proposal for a New Pact for Europe based on the outcome of all these debates, including concrete recommendations. European Lab 2014 « Europe Culture Refresh », 27-30 May, Lyon, France
On 26 February, Arty Farty announced the entire program and the 30 first confirmed speakers of this year edition of the European Lab.

This year for the first time since its creation, European Lab is collaborating with three major European networks: Culture Action EuropeUCLG - Agenda 21 for Culture and Eurocities to reflect together on the role of culture in the city of tomorrow. An even more relevant debate in the framework of the European elections. For the opening day, European Lab and its partners will invite a delegation of vice-mayors for culture from big European cities for a meeting with today’s cultural operators. This conference and the two working sessions dedicated to the same issue will open a space to discuss and revisit strategies for local cultural policies, which must be adapted to meet the needs of a new generation of cultural professionals in Europe.

NEMO and the Netherlands Museums Association join forces to publish a report on the benefits of cooperation within the museum sector
Published as a joint-initiative between NEMO, the Network of European Museum
Organisations, and the Netherlands Museums Association, the English version of the report “Tried-and-Tested Partnerships” explores successful examples of cooperation and new initiatives within the Dutch museum sector.

The European Expert Network on Culture (EENC) last publication

The EENC, coordinated by Culture Action Europe and Interarts, published two documents on current trends of cultural exchange and future perspectives EU-South Korea and challenges and priorities for cultural heritage in Europe.

4th European Forum on Music, Music and Politics: a shared responsibility
The next EMC annual conference will take place in 2014 from 19 – 22 June in the Swiss capital of Bern in cooperation with the Swiss Music Council and the Yehudi Menuhin Forum Bern.
 
RESEO – EUROPEAN NETWORK FOR OPERA AND DANCE EDUCATION
Spring conference in Helsinki, Finland, 24 - 26 April 2014
The title of the conference will be “SoulFood: Physical, mental and social effects of opera and dance”. By means of different workshops, debates and project presentations, as well as performances and informal exchanges, we will explore the impact opera and dance can have on the individual, organisations and society.

ON THE MOVE
Building the case for a (green) support to cultural mobility
Wales Arts International has commissioned OTM to work on an evaluation of the International Opportunities Fund (IOF) and its long term impact on the mobility of artists and cultural professionals based in Wales.The sustainability impact of cultural mobility will also be the motto of the training on green issues in Berlin on 12-13 March, targeted at EU policy makers and funders, as part of the EU funded GALA project with Julie's Bicycle, and in Berlin, ITI and IGBK.

CoopCulture presented a book on 26 February 2014 in Rome, entitled Roma Caput Mundi. Testimonianze antiche e nuove pratiche d’integrazione. Il ruolo del patrimonio culturale. The book is the result of an intercultural education project published by Electa.

Mobility happens anyway, let’s make it happen better!
Throughout 2013, On the Move has been co-producing or updating guides and toolkits to help artists and cultural professionals to better identify funding and/or information resources to support their mobility. The guides to the funding of international mobility for artists and cultural professionals in Europe have been updated for 9 countries. The focus has also been sectorial with a specific guide for cultural journalists in Europe and geographical with a repertory of web-links on cultural mobility in Latin America. The analysis of the multiple impacts of cultural mobility has been engaged with regards to actions and current trends at the level of 24 European cities and through the definition of key indicators to measure the impacts of cultural mobility in Wales.  Such reports aims also at feeding the advocacy tool of On the Move, the Charter for a Sustainable and Responsible Cultural Mobility.

General Assembly December 4-7, 2013 in Vienna, Austria
The last EFNYO general assembly took place on December 4-7, 2013 in Vienna, Austria. The thematic discussed were “Challenges for orchestras in the 21st century” and “Musicians and entrepreneurial skills”. Pécs will also host the EUROPA CANTAT festival in 2015.

Handing over archives of IDOCO
In November 2013, after an intense cooperation process, the Presidents of IDOCO and the European Choral Association – Europa Cantat (ECA-EC), Mr. Wolfgang Schröfel and Mr. Gábor Móczár, signed an agreement on the incorporation of the archives and the history of IDOCO into the archives of ECA-EC.  With the agreement signed the European Choral Association – Europa Cantat engages itself on preserving the history and memory of the international movement of workers’ choirs.

The objective of the ENCATC Journal of Cultural Management and Policy is to stimulate the debate on the topics of cultural management and cultural policy among scholars, educators, policy makers and cultural managers. The Journal is based on a multidisciplinary perspective and aims at connecting theory and practice in the realm of the cultural sector.

COMIX4 Project
The COMIX4= COMICS FOR EQUALITY Award, lead by Africa e Mediterraneo, is a project and competition funded by the European Union open to comic artists with a migrant background from all 27 EU member states, EFTA countries and countries that have applied for / are in the process of EU-membership (Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, FYRM, Turkey, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo). There are 3 categories: The fight against racism, Stories of migration and Stereotypes. An author may submit a maximum of three comic stories per category Six prizes of 1.000€ each will be awarded as part of the competition: three prizes will be assigned by the jury and three prizes will be awarded by website users. Deadline is 30th of June 2013.

TANDEM–Cultural Managers Exchange Turkey–European Union 2013-2014
TANDEM–Cultural Managers Exchange Turkey–European Union aims at establishing long-term partnerships between cultural organisations from Turkey and the EU countries. TANDEM Turkey-EU is targeted on engaging participants in an intense international collaboration process, including placements and realisation of a shared interdisciplinary project. Call for papers – Interculturalism, Education and Borders from the perspective of cultural policies
S28 Mag is the bimonthly web magazine of Perypezye Urbane, a UE- oriented Italy based cultural organization, with two main purposes: to advocate an exchange between nations and cultures and to invite discourses and discussions on big issues related to cultural policies. Roundtable with President Barroso, artists and intellectuals from the cultural world
On 17 September 2012, the Centre for Fine Arts of Brussels (BOZAR) and the European Commission co-organized a roundtable with its President, José Manuel Barroso, and 20 renowned artistes and intellectuals from the cultural world. Three main topics were discussed: the impact of the financial crisis on European citizenship and the notion of European identity, what artists can do for Europe, and what Europe can do for artists.

“The Role of Culture Faced with the Rise of Nationalism in EuropeCitizens’ Resistance!”, Turin, 21, 22 & 23 November 2012
At its 19th meeting, the Banlieues d’Europe network will focus on different forms of cultural projects in Europe fighting against the rise of nationalism and against xenophobia. By an exploration of these cultural projects and the contribution of researchers, field actors, and artists, participants will highlight the problems linked with the transmission of history and memory, question new forms of resistance and activism and look at innovative intercultural practices.

Two exhibitions with an European dimension this summer
This summer, Bozar organizes two exhibitions with a European dimension. The first one, entitled Sense of Place, will present some 160 works by 40 photographers from every Member State of the EU, focusing on the similarities and differences across Europe, both in the landscapes and in the attitude of people towards those landscapes. The second one, organized under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, and called Mapping Cyprus, will provide both a historical part focusing on Cyprus's position as a gateway between the Byzantine East and Latin West and a modern part in which contemporary Cypriot artists address the socio-political issues of today.

On 7 June, Bozar held a Press Meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, on how culture and artists could better support the European Union. At this occasion, President Schulz highlighted the importance of young people and young artists to re-strengthen the European project and reconnect it with its citizens.

AMATEO - European Network for Active Participation in Cultural Activities

This August, six European Cultural Contact Points (AT, BE, HR, HU, SI, SR) will organize a regional event in Ljubljana in connection with the international festival 7th Front@ of Contemporary Dance. The conference is dedicated to the promotion of successful European transnational cooperation initiatives. It also brings the topic of “art and public space” to the fore in collaboration with UIRS - the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia and the Flota Institute. The event will bring together experienced cultural operators from six countries that have been implementing EU Culture projects that focus on different artistic disciplines as well as research approaches in/to the public space.

Can independent culture have an impact on society?
On 6th of June Moukhtar Kocache, a member of the Danish EU Presidency project Team Culture, talked in front of several members of the European Parliament and Ministers for Culture. Mr Kocache highlighted Trans Europe Halles as an example of the great importance that independent cultural centres have for society.

19th Banlieues d'Europe Network meeting, Turin,  21-23 November
For its 19th meeting entitled « The Role of Culture Faced with the Rise of Nationalism in Europe Citizens’Resistance! », the Banlieues d’Europe network will tackle the challenge of examining the place and the role of culture as a form of citizen’s action and participation faced with the issues of social cohesion that question geographical frontiers as well as frontiers of imagination.
